An Ocean Literacy Research Café: Co-Developing A Collaborative Ocean Literacy Research Program for the Ocean Decade (Congress Program - LCS-1927) (STREAM 1)

The Ocean Literacy Research (OLR) Café will promote a discussion on ocean conservation, blue economy, climate change, and ocean literacy. This is an opportunity to link the IMPAC5 Themes with the global ocean literacy movement, as the OLR Café concludes an initial workshop series aimed at co-developing a global ocean literacy research program for the UN Ocean Decade.

This effort was co-led by the Canadian Ocean Literacy Coalition (COLC), Marine Social Sciences Network, Cardiff University, and University of Portsmouth, alongside 15 international partners. The first workshop at the July 7, 2021 Ocean Decade Laboratory brought together 170 international participants who are committed to strengthening societal ocean literacy and, subsequently, marine conservation.

The OLR Café will be hosted by a team of OLRC facilitators and will begin with a context-setting introduction followed by dynamic Café conversations, one per IMPAC5 Theme, before returning to a concluding plenary.
